A new technological line by Photon Water was commissioned in Prague-Troja to treat river water from the Vltava for plant irrigation needs. The project is a prime example of circular water management, where water quality is treated precisely according to its intended purpose.
All mechanical equipment is compactly housed in a concrete shaft beneath a cycle path. Given its proximity to the river, high emphasis is placed on safety; the system is equipped with a gate valve and an electric-actuated penstock to protect the technology from flooding during high water levels.
The treatment process itself involves pumping water via a pair of self-priming pumps through a filter system into a 12 m³ storage tank. The treated water is then transported using pumps with frequency converters to an elevated water reservoir, from where it is used to irrigate plant exhibits.
The technological system also includes backwash water pumps and pumps for transferring backwash water to the sewer system.
The entire system achieves an effective output of 20 m³/h and is fully automated. Control and 24/7 remote monitoring are managed by the intelligent PhotonMATIC control system.
This implementation not only conserves valuable drinking water resources, but by replacing expensive mains water with river water, it also delivers significant operational cost savings to the botanical garden.
